Airports Authority Names Thomas Beatty Vice President of Engineering

Previous senior vice president of engineering, Roger Natsuhara, will assume role of chief engineer and development officer.

Thomas Beatty was named vice president of engineering for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Beatty has been acting in the role since April 2021, when the previous Senior Vice President of Engineering Roger Natsuhara was promoted to chief engineer and development officer.
“This announcement is a reflection of Tom’s stellar performance throughout his career at the Airports Authority,” said Airports Authority President and Chief Executive Officer John E. Potter in the December Board of Directors meeting. “In addition to being extremely knowledgeable about construction and engineering, Tom has served as a great mentor for many young engineers. I look forward to seeing him continue to excel in his new role.”
A 25-year veteran of the airports authority, Beatty brings extensive engineering and construction leadership experience to the position. During his time at the airports authority, he has overseen a number of significant projects, including Project Journey’s new concourse and new security checkpoints at Reagan National Airport and key programs at Dulles International. He began his career at the airports authority in 1997 as an environmental program engineer, before moving onto managing the Building Codes and Environmental Department and being named deputy vice president of the Office of Engineering in 2019. Beatty holds a degree in engineering and science from the Pennsylvania State University, is a licensed professional engineer, certified building official and holds several environmental certifications. He is a registered professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a Certified Building Official.
