Public Works Minister and Chile's First Lady Visit New Santiago Airport Terminal
Juan Carlos Garcia, Chile's Minister of Public Works, on March 22 visited Santiago airport for the first time since his appointment as head of the ministry, alongside the First Lady Irina Karamanos. Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions and president of VINCI Airports, presented the authorities with the new state-of-the-art international terminal, which came into service in February — a key infrastructure for the country, raising the airport's capacity to 38 million passengers per year.
On this occasion, Garcia and Karamaos inaugurated Santiago Airport's first art exhibition in the new terminal. Highlighting the artwork of the Mapuche community from the central region of the country, this monumental work will offer international passengers a unique experience of Chile's cultural identity upon arrival at the airport.
Garcia and Notebaert also discussed future priorities. These include continuing to develop the connectivity of Santiago airport and accelerating its environmental action plan. VINCI Airports aims to achieve "Net Zero Emission" by 2050, notably by improving energy efficiency and developing photovoltaic energy at the airport.
Santiago airport is operated under a 20-year concession won in 2015 by Consorcio Nuevo Pudahuel, made up of Groupe ADP (45%), VINCI Airports (40%) and Astaldi Concessioni (15%).
