J.D. Power Names Tampa International Airport the #1 Large Airport in Customer Satisfaction for Second Consecutive Year
Tampa International Airport has once again been named the #1 Large Airport in the J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study, one of the most prestigious analytics reports in the industry. TPA is only the third airport in the study’s 18-year history to receive consecutive top rankings in the large airport segment.
The J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study measures overall traveler satisfaction with mega, large and medium North American airports by examining six factors (in order of importance): terminal facilities; airport arrival/departure; baggage claim; security check; check-in/baggage check; and food, beverage and retail. In addition to receiving the highest overall score in its size category, TPA received the top scores among all other large airports in the terminal facilities and airport arrival/departure categories.
"We know what Tampa International Airport does well, regardless of any scores or studies, but the J.D. Power top ranking for two years in a row demonstrates that our passengers recognize it too," TPA CEO Joe Lopano said. "As we continue to expand and adapt to meet the needs of our growing region, we hope to maintain this legacy of excellence for generations to come."
TPA currently serves more than 23 million passengers a year and has been undergoing a three-phase Master Plan construction program since 2012, expanding its Main Terminal, adding a state-of-the-art rental car facility and SkyConnect train system, completing award-winning Express Curbs for faster passenger drop off and pick-up, and the LEED Platinum-certified SkyCenter One commercial office building. In 2024, it will break ground on Airside D, a new 16-gate international and domestic terminal that is scheduled to open in 2028.
The Airport’s amenities have won numerous accolades over the last two years, including last year’s America’s Best Restroom Award by Cintas and this year’s CODAWorx People’s Choice award for Matthew Mazzotta’s "HOME," TPA’s famous flamingo sculpture in the Main Terminal.
"What makes TPA special is the love and support we’ve received from our travelers, residents and airport partners over the years, so this No. 1 spot truly belongs to all," Lopano said. "We’re proud to represent our region with back-to-back J.D. Power wins as we continue to shine along with our incredible Tampa Bay community."
