Construction Contract Approved for San Antonio International Airport’s New Terminal
At today’s City Council meeting, San Antonio International Airport (SAT) received the green light for several contracts and agreements presented last week regarding the Terminal Development Program (TDP) and the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR). The largest one, not to exceed $1 billion, authorizes the City Manager to negotiate and execute the CMAR contract with Hensel Phelps Construction Co.
Hensel Phelps is a global aviation terminal contractor and the largest one in the U.S. with $20B+ in experience at the following airports:
- Miami (MIA)
- Los Angeles (LAX)
- Seattle (SEA)
- Baltimore (BWI)
- Austin (AUS)
- Houston Hobby (HOU)
- Houston (IAH)
“SAT’s new terminal is going to generate approximately 6,000 direct and indirect jobs,” said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System. “More than 85% of the CMR contract is expected to go to local contractors – which will have a major, beneficial impact on our community.”
The new terminal facility project scope includes:
- 17-gate concourse and apron with a new Federal Inspection Service area
- Expansion of elevated roadway
- Central utility plant enhancements
- Multi-story ground transportation center, including additional parking
- North ramp parking for aircraft remaining overnight.
- Related demolition/preparation site work
- Improvements to utilities
