Adam Mercer, P.E., will lead HDR’s construction and field services practice, made up of more than 1,000 construction professionals working across the globe. Mercer takes the reins of a practice that covers a large suite of construction disciplines, with a track record of project success that goes back decades. In 2023, Engineering News-Record ranked HDR 13th in its annual list of Top 100 construction management/PM-for-fee firms.
Based in HDR’s Indianapolis office, Mercer will be responsible for the continued growth of the practice and in charge of leading and implementing construction services across all markets, including transportation, water, power, defense and more.
Mercer joins HDR with nearly 20 years of experience in the construction industry, including serving as construction manager on the $1.2 billion Central 70 Reconstruction project that is reshaping urban Denver with a new tunnel and highway cover. He also worked on projects where HDR played prominent roles, such as the I-77 Yadkin County reconstruction in North Carolina and the Interstate 95/395 Express Lanes in Virginia. He is active in industry associations and has been recognized with multiple awards for his leadership and dedication to his craft.
“I believe that every project can be successful if the project management team focuses on project safety, has a ‘project first’ mentality, and has the right leadership in place,” Mercer said. “My goal is to be a servant leader and provide the support needed for my teams to succeed. I’m excited to bring my energy and passion to HDR and believe there’s great things ahead.”
“Construction services encompasses an important variety of skillsets in high demand among our clients, including construction managers, resident engineers, inspectors, construction administrators, and more,” said Transportation President Tom McLaughlin. “Leading this growing service offering requires a specific combination of strategic thinking, leadership, passion, knowledge, and experience, which Adam has. I’m confident that with his leadership, we will continue to advance our construction field services practice through the integration of new digital technologies and deliver exceptional projects with uncompromising quality.”
