San Antonio International Airport Breaks All-Time Passenger Record in 2023
San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is kicking off the new year with a new record: 2023 is officially SAT’s busiest year ever in its 80-year history. 10,676,570 passengers flew through SAT, which is 3% more than the previous record set in 2019 with 10,363,040 passengers.
“We are on cloud nine,” said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System (SAAS). “This is a historical milestone for SAT with 10.7 million passengers. We know how much hard work went into it all – with new routes announced domestically and internationally. 2023 is now the year to beat. We’re getting ready for our first-ever nonstop flights to Europe starting in May on Condor Airlines – and we’re planning so much more in 2024.”
SAT’s other records in 2023 include:
- Last month, the airport’s passenger numbers reached 968,469, making it the busiest in December ever and the first time passenger numbers reached above 900,000 for that month.
- SAT broke a monthly passenger level record every month consecutively since May.
- The passenger numbers far exceeded 2022, with an increase of nearly 13%.
- July was the first month with more than one million passengers.
“SAT launched several new routes and saw the expansion of existing service,” said Brian Pratte, Chief Air Service Officer, SAAS. “Spirit Airlines added new nonstop service to Baltimore, Ft. Lauderdale and Los Angeles. Viva Aerobus added a new destination, Queretaro, last month. Delta Air Lines resumed daily service to New York (JFK) and Southwest Airlines brought back daily service to Kansas City. 2024 is full of new previously announced routes that are adding to our continual growth.”
