ATL, MARTA Prepare For Temporary Airport Station Closure
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) in collaboration with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), is announcing a temporary closure of the MARTA Airport Station for renovations from April 8 through May 19, 2024. To ensure uninterrupted access to the Airport, shuttle services will be provided between College Park Station and the Airport, facilitating a smooth transition for travelers and Airport employees.
“As we continue to serve as a vital hub for global travel, the upcoming renovations at MARTA’s Airport Station reflect our joint commitment to enhancing the travel experience,” stated ATL Airport General Manager Balram “B” Bheodari. “We fully support this upgrade, encouraging our Airport community to plan accordingly by allowing extra time for travel. The availability of shuttle service ensures uninterrupted access, and we are grateful for everyone’s cooperation and patience during this transformative time.”
During this six-week period, passengers are advised to allocate an extra 30 minutes for their journey to the Airport due to the shuttle transfer. The shuttle service is ADA accessible, and will operate 22 hours a day, from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m., ensuring that the world’s busiest airport remains accessible to all. The renovation of the concourse and platform levels is part of MARTA’s Station Rehabilitation Program, aimed at improving safety and aesthetics for the millions of travelers and thousands of employees who move through the airport annually. This proactive approach minimizes disruptions and expedites the renovation process, demonstrating a strong partnership between MARTA and the airport in serving the public and enhancing infrastructure.“MARTA remains an efficient and inexpensive way to get to and from the airport, whether you work there or are traveling,” said MARTA General Manager Collie Greenwood. “We will be providing easily accessible shuttle service for travelers and airport employees between College Park Station and the Airport so we can safely complete this necessary work at Airport Station. We ask that if you’re headed to the Airport for your shift or to catch a flight, you give yourself an extra 30 minutes to account for the adjustment to our service.”
Travelers and employees are encouraged to follow designated signage for shuttle services at both College Park Station and the North Terminal Lower Level at the Airport. The Airport and MARTA are committed to providing timely updates and travel tips to ensure a seamless experience during this temporary adjustment.
