San Antonio International Airport (SAT) made history with the launch of Condor Airlines’ inaugural nonstop flight to Frankfurt, Germany. Frankfurt Airport (FRA), the airline’s hub, has connections to more than 100 destinations throughout Europe and beyond.

“We appreciate Condor Airlines investing in San Antonio,” San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said. “This new air service gives people in the Alamo City and across the South Central Texas region an easy option to travel abroad. San Antonio has many cultural, business and military ties to Frankfurt – making it the most popular destination for our community.”

At a celebration before the inaugural flight departed, Jesus H. Saenz, Jr., Director of Airports, City of San Antonio Aviation Department, said the new nonstop flight means so much to so many people.

“This nonstop flight from SAT to Europe is monumental,” Saenz said. “San Antonio travelers have demanded this transatlantic service to the heart of Europe. Our military community, our business travelers, leisure travelers and families can benefit from the affordable fares and convenient flight times. It’s the perfect option for a summer vacation.”

Mikko Turtiainen, Condor’s Director of Sales, The Americas, said the new nonstop, which is the first in Texas, also gives German vacationers an exciting destination.

“It is with great pleasure that we introduce Condor and our new A330neo product into the Lone Star State,” Turtiainen said. “This provides both European-bound American travelers as well as German vacationers coming to Texas with an affordable and convenient flight that will also have a positive impact on tourism both ways.”

The seasonal air service will have an estimated economic impact of $34 million on the San Antonio region during the next two summers, Nirenberg added.

The fuel-efficient Airbus A330-900neo aircraft is one of the most planet-friendly aircraft in the skies. The aircraft reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 20 percent. The A330neo consumes just a half a gallon of fuel, per passenger, per 62 miles flown -- well below the industry average. It is the first aircraft in the world already certified for the regulatory reduction in CO2 emissions, which will be required by 2028, and that subsequently will reduce travelers’ environmental footprint.

The A330neo offers inflight passenger comfort and will accommodate 310 passengers, featuring four Prime Seats, 26 seats in Business Class, 64 seats in Premium Economy Class and 216 seats in Economy Class. The A330neo also features the quietest cabin in the sky, providing passengers with the highest level of comfort and ambiance to sleep and relax. This includes offering more personal space, larger overhead bins, a new lighting system and the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity.
