“Viva Aerobus is a win for OAK reflecting many years of effort and planning. This flight will lead to even closer ties and economic development between the San Francisco Bay Area, especially the East Bay, and Nuevo León,” says Craig Simon, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “This unique nonstop offered by one of Mexico’s largest and most successful airlines, is great for travelers and makes it easy to use, OAK, the San Francisco Bay Area airport closest to most residents and employers."

"We are excited to begin operating this new route, connecting the San Francisco Bay Area to Viva Aerobus' hometown of Monterrey,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus. “San Francisco and the Port of Oakland are key part of our major expansion strategy in the US, as this route will allow passengers to fly non-stop and low fares between these regions, plus allowing them to easily connect through our Monterrey hub to over 30 leisure and business destinations in Mexico,” he added.

Known as the “Business Capital of Mexico,” Monterrey is home to a growing entrepreneurial ecosystem and is also headquarters for Viva Aerobus. Among the many tech company connections between the two regions, automaker Tesla has manufacturing plants in both Monterrey and Fremont, California near OAK.

Viva Aerobus, which operates the youngest fleet in North America, will use the A320 and A321Neo airliner on the OAK service seating 186 and 240 passengers, respectively, offering “Priority “and “Space +” assigned seating. Wi-Fi access and “Viva Play”, featuring movies and TV, are available for a nominal fee. The airline, which was named “Low-Cost Airline of the Year in 2023”, offers an extensive range of food and beverages for purchase onboard. Viva Aerobus has a hub at Monterrey allowing for easy connections between the new flight and its extensive network of destinations throughout Mexico.
