Dallas Love Field will close one of its runways for safety improvements and rehabilitation beginning Aug. 5.
The project has undergone study and approval through the city’s department of aviation, the Federal Aviation Administration and other subject matter experts. It aims to correct the runway’s safety area deficiencies and install new drainage infrastructure along the side of it.
“We are committed to ensuring the highest safety and efficiency standards at Dallas Love Field, and these improvements are a vital part of that commitment,” said Patrick Carreno, director of the department of aviation in a release.
All aircraft traffic will use 13R/31L, the runway parallel to Harry Hines Boulevard, during the closure, according to the airport. That could lead to potential delays due to reduced capacity.
On June 30, Love Field received new surface awareness initiative systems from the Federal Aviation Administration meant to improve runway safety.
