The wing of an incoming Delta flight struck the runway during a landing attempt at LaGuardia Airport over the weekend, officials said Monday.
Flight 4814 from Jacksonville, Fla. — operated by Endeavor Air — was landing at the Queens airport around 10:10 p.m. Sunday when they were faced with an “unstable approach,” according to the FAA.
The pilots performed a go-around, a standard aviation maneuver in which the pilot aborts a landing due to safety concerns and climbs to a safer altitude to attempt the approach again.
But as the aircraft was climbing back into the air, the left wing of the twin-jet slammed into the runway. There were no injuries and the plane was able to regain altitude and land safely.
The plane remained at LaGuardia airport Monday, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
In a post on X Sunday evening, the airport advised passengers that weather conditions were causing flight disruptions. The National Weather Service reported light rain, fog and mist in the area around the time of the landing.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
