First Global Entry Enrollment Center Opens in Richmond
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) opened a Global Entry Enrollment Center yesterday at Richmond International Airport (RIC). Conditionally approved Global Entry applicants can now register for an interview with a CBP officer at the Richmond location on the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) website. Global Entry, a CBP trusted traveler program, allows for expedited clearance of pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. It is the second Global Entry Enrollment Center in Virginia.
“We are pleased to open a Global Entry Enrollment Center in Richmond for those hoping to join the ranks of trusted traveler,” said Mark J. Laria, area port director for Port of Norfolk. “The new enrollment center provides a convenient, local center for people to complete their application process.”
The Richmond enrollment center at RIC is open Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., however, applicants are encouraged to check the Global Online Enrollment System website for other open appointment times. CBP officers will only interview Global Entry applicants with appointments. The Enrollment center is located at Richmond International Airport.
Global Entry members bypass the traditional CBP inspection lines and use an automated kiosk to complete their admission to the United States. Travelers scan their passport and fingerprints, answer customs declaration questions using the kiosk’s touch screen and proceed with a receipt to the exit—the whole process takes only about one minute.
