Smiths Detection Earns Prestigious Gold Award in Defence Employer Recognition Scheme
Smiths Detection, a global leader in threat detection and security screening technologies, and a business of Smiths Group plc, is proud to announce it has been awarded the Gold Award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), a testament to the company’s commitment to supporting the armed forces community. This recognition places Smiths Detection among a select group of organisations that have demonstrated the highest level of support for Veterans, Reservists, and military families.
The Gold Award in the ERS is the highest form of recognition for companies that go above and beyond in their support of the armed forces. To achieve this, Smiths Detection has embedded its commitment to the military community into the very fabric of its operations, ensuring that policies and practices are designed to support the unique needs of those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families.
One of the key initiatives that contributed to this award is Smiths Detection’s implementation of additional paid leave not only for Reservists, but also for Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) and the spouses of those serving, enabling them to spend much needed time with their partner before deployments. The company also offers flexible working arrangements and other supportive policies for military spouses and partners, recognising the significant role they play in the well-being and stability of military families.

It also works closely with the Human Resources team to attract and retain Veteran talent, ensuring that Smiths Detection remains a Veteran-friendly employer.
