ABOUT OUR AGENCY

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is a professional public safety agency made up of dedicated professionals who work hard to improve the quality of life as well as prevent the unnecessary loss of life on a daily basis. The WSP has approximately 2,200 employees and is organized into six bureaus: Field Operations, Technical Services, Forensic Laboratory Services, Fire Protection, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and Investigative Services. More than half of all WSP employees work in a variety of non-commissioned jobs to support the Patrol's mission.

DUTIES

This position supports the Washington State Patrol Aviation Sections mission to provide aerial traffic enforcement, traffic congestion management, homeland security, and other aerial law enforcement services in support of the Patrol’s public safety mission.  This is accomplished by maintaining a high level of safety and 24-7 readiness of the Patrol's mission aircraft and support technologies.

  • Perform inspection, repair and maintenance on turbine or reciprocating engine powered aircraft owned or operated by the Washington State Patrol or its contracted partners.
  • Maintain aircraft in an airworthy condition, in accordance with all FAA regulations, and manufacturer’s instruction.  This includes: Inspection, troubleshooting, diagnosis, moving aircraft with ground equipment or under power, starting, operating, and testing aircraft, skillful use of hand and power tools to replace parts, perform precision measurements, operate test equipment, drilling, cutting, riveting, welding, general fabrication, skillful use of computers and various software to research, and document airworthiness compliance.
  • Ensure aircraft conforms to their type certificate data sheet or its properly altered condition.  
  • Read and understand technical manuals, blueprints, and other airworthiness documentation, as provided by the FAA, Aircraft Manufacturer or other approved vendors.  
  • Interpret and apply technical and legal documents as they pertain to the airworthiness of the aircraft.
  • Perform second checks on peers work.
  • Avionics and equipment installation
  • Facility, grounds, pool car, and equipment maintenance. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must read and write the English language fluently.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver’s license.
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration airframe and power plant license (A&P).
  • Must be punctual, detail oriented, self-starter, focused, unquestionable integrity, and have a working knowledge of aircraft systems, and repair.  
  • Ability to skillfully operate hand and power tools, shop equipment, aircraft test, and repair equipment, aircraft tow vehicles, lift truck, other vehicles in the performance of these duties.
  • Working knowledge of troubleshooting, diagnosis, sheet metal fabrication and repair, composite repair, and Federal Aviation Administration’s regulations as it pertains to their job.
  • General computer skills and be able to learn and master all aviation software used for maintenance, parts tracking, repair, and documentation.  
  • Willingness and ability to work both indoors and outdoors in an all weather/temperature, high noise level environment. 
  • Willingness and ability to work around hazardous chemicals. 
  • Willingness and ability to work in confined spaces.

Must provide a thorough set of aviation mechanics power and hand tools.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 10 years of experience maintaining general aviation and turbine corporate aircraft.
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration Inspection Authorization (IA).
  • Avionics troubleshooting and installation skills.
  • Aerial law enforcement equipment troubleshooting and installation skills – Aerial mapping systems, FLIR cameras, digital downlink, satellite phones, digital recorders, etc.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

If you have any tattoos, body art, branding, or voluntary disfigurement that would be visible while on duty, you will be required to either remove those items or cover them completely and opaquely while in short sleeves. Visible areas include, but are not limited to, lower portion of the upper arms, elbows, the entire forearms, hands, neck, and facial areas.

POLYGRAPH & BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION
