ENMU-Roswell to offer shorter program
The Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program at ENMU-Roswell has revised its training curriculum. Students can now complete the requirements for a certificate to completion in only 14.5 months. The revised curriculum was recently approved by the FAA. Students will receive advanced composite repair training, Boeing 727 familiarization training, and Cessna approved composite training certification. Students also benefit from hands-on training on operational aircraft and local internship opportunities. University and aviation officials predict the demand for certified AMTs will continue to grow. New aviation mechanic school to offer free tuition
The Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) has finally made it to the West Coast. It has opened its newest location in Oakland, CA. For the inaugural class, AIM is looking for first class candidates to dedicate the time necessary to graduate from the Aviation Maintenance Technology program. If a student can do that, they will receive free tuition. The entire education that they receive from AIM will be paid for, with one stipulation, the student must graduate. Unmanned aircraft course enrollment up
Interest in Kansas State University Salina’s Introduction to Unmanned Aircraft Systems is soaring, with enrollment up 200 percent since fall 2010. Most of the students in the class are professional pilot majors, some have military experience, and some plan to enter the military after the training. The UAS program is located on K-State’s Salina campus. The campus’ access to restricted airspace at the Smoky Hills Weapon Range means students are getting hands-on, real-world experience. The unmanned aerial systems program currently offers a certificate, university officials anticipate a bachelor’s degree wil be available when the next semester begins. Free to high school students
Founded in 1973 and operated by the Los Angeles Unified School District’s North Valley Occupational Center, the Aircraft Mechanic School is one of the only programs of its kind open to high school students. It offers a combination of classroom lectures in 45 individual subject areas and shop-oriented projects; its facilities include a high-bay hangar in which students work on actual propeller aircraft, jets, and helicopters. Approximately 150to 200 students are enrolled each year in the two-year program, which is free to high school students and costs about $500 total for older students including summer session. Both day and night classes are available. The Van Nuys Airport Association awards two $500 scholarships in memory of Milton Widelitz, one of VNAA’s original founders and also the founder of Aerolease Associates. NTSB offers investigative courses
The National Transportation Safety Board is offering two investigative courses and one transportation disaster response course over the next two months at its training center just outside Washington, D.C. The five-day Rotorcraft Accident Investigation course (Aug. 22-26) provides participants with a comprehensive overview of the procedures and methods used and the skills required with all aspects of rotorcraft accident investigation. Examples from recent investigations and case studies will be used to demonstrate particular aspects of the investigative process. See more at go.usa.gov/Bkn. The three-day Transportation Disaster Response – Mass Fatality Incidents for Medicolegal Professionals course (Aug. 30 - Sept. 1) examines the principles of managing the medicolegal response to transportation-related mass fatality incidents. Areas that will be addressed include managing search and recovery operations, the antemortem and postmortem data collection process, quality assurance, and interacting with family members’ regarding medicolegal issues. Added training center in Dubai
Emirates-CAE Flight Training (ECFT), the joint venture between Emirates Group and CAE, twill open a second facility in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in 2012 to provide additional training capacity for airline pilots and aviation maintenance technicians. The facility will initially house four full-flight simulator (FFS) bays with plans to expand to as many as 10 bays. The first FFSs installed will replicate the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 families of aircraft. The Emirates–CAE Flight Training Center was the first facility of its kind in the Middle East to be approved by Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards, and U.A.E (GCAA) standards.
