It’s been a few months since I sat down to write my editor’s column. I’m fortunate my desk is in front of a window, which allows me to gaze outside while I think about what to write. The last time I wrote a column the autumn colors were ablaze and the farm fields were bustling with machinery. Today, it's a sunshine and snow-covered landscape. It looks beautiful outside. As nice as it appears, those of us who live in the Upper Midwest know how deceiving this picture really is. It is actually bitter cold outside; the news outlets call it the Polar Vortex Intrusion of 2019. Perhaps you remember this cold spell from late January. Yes the picture is different than what it was a number of months ago.
The picture of our company also looks different than it was just a few short months ago. Endeavor Business Media continues to grow. We have taken on more media and event properties, and our aviation group has taken on additional staff. Long-time publisher of our Airport Business and Ground Support Worldwide titles, Missy Zingsheim, is now also responsible for Aircraft Maintenance Technology. On page 50 of this issue, Missy writes her hello to you and introduces the new aviation group staff.
It’s also that time of the year for tradeshow planning. AMT is preparing for the next big events; Heli-Expo in March and MRO Americas in April. Both of these very important industry events will be held in Atlanta, GA, this year.
A much smaller but very important event I feel important to mention is the Aviation Technician Education Council (ATEC) Annual Conference, held this year in the Air Capital of the World, Wichita, KS. ATEC has grown in numbers and influence to become a very important part of aviation maintenance education and workforce development. Read about this year’s conference on Page 22.
Keep ‘em flying safe, Ron
