Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez to Discuss Aerospace Workforce Development at Embry-Riddle on Oct. 8
Building workforce capacity to accelerate economic progress and create high-paying jobs will be the focus of remarks by Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Oct. 8.
Hosted by Embry-Riddle President P. Barry Butler, Nuñez will be available to speak with journalists at 2:30 p.m. in the John Mica engineering and aerospace innovation complex (“MicaPlex”), the cornerstone facility of the University’s Research Park. The MicaPlex is located on Clyde Morris Boulevard at Bellevue Avenue.
Lieutenant Governor Nuñez will be visiting Embry-Riddle to take part in a daylong series of workforce-related events, including a Career Expo for some 7,000 current students as well as alumni of the University who will be on campus for Homecoming celebrations. The day’s events will also include a private workforce development roundtable where Nuñez will hear from leading global aerospace companies, hosted by Embry-Riddle Board of Trustees Chairman Mori Hosseini.
Since the spring 2017 debut of the MicaPlex, the Research Park has recruited more than 17 companies, including global aerospace communications leader Arralis, which employs over 76 student interns and has created over 33 full-time jobs at an annual salary of $60,000.
A tour of Embry-Riddle’s Flight Operations as well as a unique laboratory that supports the Aerospace Physiology degree program—the only program of its kind in the country—are also on the agenda for Nuñez during her visit to the University.
“The progress of Embry-Riddle’s Research Park is part of a broader team effort to establish Central Florida as the northern gateway to Florida’s space triangle so that our region can benefit from the $348 billion global space economy,” Hosseini said. “Cultivating a highly skilled workforce will be key to making that happen and we are grateful for the Lieutenant Governor’s support for talent capacity-building efforts.”
