U.S. Senator John McCain Holds Town Hall Meeting at Universal Avionics Headquarters

TUCSON, AZ – March 31, 2016 – Universal Avionics welcomed United States Senator John McCain (R-AZ) to the company’s Corporate Headquarters today in Tucson, Arizona. As Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), Senator McCain is taking special interest in visiting with local aerospace and defense industry employers throughout Arizona.

As part of his visit to Universal Avionics, Senator McCain held a Town Hall Meeting, covering a variety of issues such as the challenges of managing Arizona’s water supply and the controlling of forest fires in the state. He also discussed the troubling suicide rate of veterans, along with the promotion of the Clay Hunt SAV Act and the Choice Card for veterans which both ensure they receive needed care. After weighing in on the state of the world in regard to ISIS and the threat it poses to the U.S., Senator McCain discussed the country’s interest in promoting a stable and peaceful world along with its NATO partners. The floor was then opened to employees and guests from the AZ Technology Council to ask questions. 

Prior to the Town Hall Meeting, Senator McCain had the opportunity to view first-hand Universal’s Manufacturing facility with a tour of the board and final assembly lines.  All Universal Avionics products are manufactured in this facility, located within its Corporate Headquarters campus in Arizona. Senator McCain also participated in a hands-on demonstration of the Next Generation avionics package soon to be released in the MD Helicopters Explorer® aircraft.

“Senator McCain was keenly interested in the recent technological advancements we have made in our product line,” said Dan Reida, Universal Avionics Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “He was also attentive to how our products align with the FAA’s NextGen initiative to the benefit of aviation in the state of Arizona, as well as throughout the rest of the United States,” he added. “Overall, Senator McCain was impressed with the technology and interested in the work we are doing with other Arizona companies.
