Saft Ultra Low Maintenance (ULM) batteries have been selected by Embraer as original equipment for the Praetor 500 and 600 fleets from September 2021. The contract also covers the batteries as aftermarket equipment for Praetor 500, Praetor 600, Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 aircraft models.
The Praetor 500 is the fastest and longest ranged midsize business jet featuring full Fly-By-Wire digital flight controls with active turbulence reduction that can take off and land on short runways, giving access to more airports worldwide. Their cabin is the largest in their class, providing a premium level of comfort for up to nine passengers. Its sister plane, the Praetor 600 is the most disruptive and technologically advanced super-midsize business jet that can carry up to 12 passengers with best-in-class range and cabin altitude.
Saft has developed the 443CH1 ULM battery specifically for Embraer. It delivers 24 V and 44 Ah capacity, providing power for APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) starting, back up and emergency power for avionics and flight controls. The battery also supports electrical system loads as needed.
“This new contract for Embraer significantly increases Saft’s footprint in business aviation with the Legacy 450/500 and Praetor 500/600 platforms now added to our portfolio, which already included multiple Embraer platforms” said Chuck Schofield, general manager for Aviation. “This is a new milestone and a major achievement for Saft that strengthens our relations with Embraer.”
Saft ULM aviation batteries have a well-established track record with major aircraft and helicopter manufacturers. They offer the ideal combination of high performance, low weight, long service life and ultra-low maintenance requirements that enable significant reductions in the total cost of ownership (TCO) for commercial aircraft. The ULM design also benefits from easily replaceable spare parts as well as the capability to be stored for long periods – up to 10 years – with no deterioration in performance.
