GE Aviation Delivers 10,000th Advanced Flight Management Computer for Boeing 737
GE Aviation recently delivered the 10,000th flight management computer (model 2907C1) to The Boeing Company marking an era of continuous partnership in support of the versatile 737 airplane.
“GE’s flight management system has been standard fit on the Boeing 737 since 1984. The current system, now in its 4th evolution, will meet 737 needs into the future,” said Alan Caslavka, president of Avionics and Digital Systems for GE Aviation.
More than 4,500 Next Generation 737s have been delivered with GE’s current flight management computer (FMC) and various 737 Classic airplanes have been retrofitted.
GE’s flight management system assists an airline flight crew in managing and optimizing a flight from takeoff to landing. The flight management precise capabilities control the aircraft within feet of the optimized flight path and within seconds of the specified arrival time. This precision enables the aircraft to fly the most efficient path, helping to ensure on time arrival while reducing fuel consumption, noise and emissions.
Flight management computer deliveries started in 1984 with the introduction of 737-300/400/500 airplanes. More than 4,000 previous FMCs including three model variants were delivered between 1984 through 2001. The current production model 2907C1 FMC is form/fit/function with previous models and can be installed on any 737 airplane.
In addition to the 737-300 through 900ER models and BBJs, GE’s flight management system is currently on the U.S. Navy P-8A, E-6B, and E-2B aircraft, the USAF KC-46A, E-4B and C-130J, UK MOD C-130J, Airbus A320/330/340, EADS A330 MRTT, Indian Navy P-8I, Japanese Navy C-2/P-1.
