Pratt & Whitney will Eliminate 450 Jobs in Connecticut, Local Leaders are Told

Oct. 15, 2020

Layoffs at jet engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney will number about 450 salaried workers in Connecticut, an East Hartford official said Wednesday.

Rich Kehoe, town council chairman in East Hartford where the manufacturer is headquartered, said Pratt & Whitney confirmed that 454 jobs in Connecticut will be eliminated, including 381 in East Hartford.

A spokeswoman for Pratt & Whitney did not immediately comment. The manufacturer, which has plants in East Hartford and Middletown, said Tuesday it will provide details on the number of job cuts and which sites in the U.S. and globally will be affected.

The job eliminations, due to steep declines in commercial aviation as a result of COVID-19, are part of a larger reduction of 15,000 employees of parent company Raytheon Technologies Corp. detailed last month.

Pratt & Whitney said Tuesday it acted to “align with current and future business demand in an evolving environment.”
