Mar. 6—LYNN — As a result of the company's $450 million investment in U.S manufacturing this year, General Electric Aviation's facility in Lynn will be receiving $31 million dollars towards building improvements.
Among the improvements listed are test cell upgrades, tooling redesign, and "other building improvements to support engine production and development."
The announcement comes in advance of preparations to create two independent companies focusing on energy and aerospace.
" GE Aerospace is a world leader in aircraft engine production due in large part to the strength and ingenuity of our U.S. employee base," said GE Chairman and CEO and GE Aerospace CEO H. Lawrence Culp, Jr. in a statement. "The investments we're making this year support cutting-edge technology that will help advance the next generation of aerospace manufacturing, ensuring a strong future for our employees, our business, the industry, and our commercial and military customers."
The company said that the investments will also aid in providing assembly improvement support, capacity expansion and maintenance, and safety infrastructure upgrades and many of the improvements stemmed from employees and executives working together to "improve costs, inventory, and safety."
"These investments across GE Aerospace and GE Vernova's portfolio of businesses include the purchase cutting-edge equipment and upgrades that position the company and our U.S. workforce to succeed in advance of the planned spin to create two independent, industry-leading companies early next year," said Spokesperson for GE Aviation Alexis Kievning.
The facility in Lynn is recognized as one of founding sites of General Electric and its history dates back more than 125 years. The plant is home to the first U.S jet engine, built in 1942, and its role today is to create, test, and assemble military and commercial aircraft engines.
The company also has plans to hire 1,700 employees for open external positions between its Aerospace and Vernova businesses.
