Gardner Aerospace to Implement Next-Gen Machining Capabilities at Consett Facility
Gardner Aerospace, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of aerospace detailed parts and sub-assemblies, is implementing Modig’s next-generation, 24m single spindle, high-speed gantry machine at its Consett facility, to provide customers with optimum, best-cost efficiency.
The company has invested in the Modig 5-axis, long-bed machine tool to increase the speed, accuracy and automation of its aluminium and titanium long-bed processes, reducing cycle times by up to 50 percent. The Modig RigiMill is equipped with the world’s largest pallet system (three pallets) and also holds the world record in chip removal (1,001 cubic inch/min.)
The 16,000m² Consett operation is a Gardner Aerospace centre of excellence for long-bed machining and this latest investment will enable the company to deliver products of even greater complexity, including A330 and A320 wing stringers, A330 NEO wing ribs, and prismatic machined parts.
Dominic Cartwright, CEO, Gardner Aerospace, says: “Investing in industry-leading equipment like the Modig RigiMill enables us to provide aerospace OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers with high-quality, best-cost materials and parts, with maximum efficiency.
“Our ‘One Gardner’ model applies the same exacting standards right across our international network. This is something we are incredibly proud of and has been an enabling factor in our recent international growth, both in the UK and overseas, meaning we are perfectly placed to support customers with the best products, processes and technology wherever they are.”
