NetJets Opens Purpose-Built Maintenance Facility at Scottsdale Airport to Support Operational Growth
In a major step to strengthen its infrastructure in a high-demand market, NetJets has opened a state-of-the-art Service Hub and exclusive-use terminal at Scottsdale Airport. Completed in August 2024, the new facility enhances the company’s ability to provide premium service, expedite aircraft maintenance, and support operational readiness in one of its busiest U.S. destinations.
The 41,500-square-foot facility—NetJets’ first new-build maintenance site—includes a 30,000-square-foot hangar for aircraft storage and servicing, alongside a 13,000-square-foot passenger terminal and administrative space. The development was executed in partnership with Jet Aviation, which manages line service, fueling, and customer service on-site, while NetJets oversees maintenance operations.
“This project set a new standard for us,” said Todd Ufferman, program manager for marketing at NetJets. “It was designed from the ground up to meet our unique operational needs and reflects our long-term commitment to Scottsdale and our Owners.”
A Strategic Site to Support Long-Term Growth
The decision to construct a dedicated facility in Scottsdale was driven by demand and operational strategy. Scottsdale has consistently ranked among the top 10 most traveled markets for NetJets Owners — those who purchase fractional shares in the company’s fleet for private aviation.
“To ensure on-demand access to mission-ready aircraft for our customers, NetJets is committed to expanding our real estate footprint across key markets,” said Ufferman. “Scottsdale was an optimal location for our new Service Hub and private terminal because our Owners already fly here frequently for both business and leisure.”
As NetJets continues to grow its fleet the company is expanding its network of dedicated Service Hubs. These hubs allow NetJets to preposition aircraft for maintenance and service at airports with high traffic volume, ultimately supporting its most important priority: safety.
Design, Construction and Execution
Construction of the Scottsdale facility began in April 2022 and reached substantial completion by May 2024. Operations officially launched in August, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony in July that brought together representatives from NetJets, Jet Aviation and Scottsdale Airport.
The hangar was meticulously designed to accommodate the varied maintenance needs of NetJets’ fleet. From power stations to fall protection systems, every detail of the workspace was tailored to support operational efficiency.
“This was our first new-build facility, and our team selected and arranged every material and piece of equipment,” Ufferman said. “Everything, down to the placement of infrastructure in the hangar, was designed with our maintenance teams in mind.”
Attached to the hangar is a two-story passenger terminal exclusively for NetJets Owners and crew. Amenities include a VIP lobby, conference rooms, scenic patio, vehicle ramp access, and covered parking. Jet Aviation manages the day-to-day customer service functions, while NetJets Service Representatives are also on-site to provide personalized service.
During the two-year construction period, NetJets worked closely with Jet Aviation and Scottsdale Airport to ensure minimal operational disruptions. A phased development plan allowed the team to construct aircraft parking ramps first, maximizing ramp access and efficiency even during high-traffic periods.
One of the biggest challenges came from pandemic-related supply chain disruptions, but Ufferman said the project team overcame them through consistent collaboration. “Strong partnerships were the key,” he said. “Jet Aviation’s infrastructure experience was instrumental, and Scottsdale Airport was a critical partner at every phase, from concept design to permitting.”
Lessons Learned and Economic Impact
The project has delivered a range of efficiencies for NetJets, including quicker access to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, better asset utilization, and improved service delivery for clients flying in and out of the region. It has also enhanced safety through better control of maintenance environments.
“Having our own dedicated hangar in Scottsdale allows us to complete maintenance that must occur indoors without delay,” said Ufferman. “It gives us more control and capacity in a high-demand area and supports the future growth of our fleet.”
Scottsdale is one of more than a dozen NetJets Service Hubs, and the facility is already influencing the company’s approach to future real estate projects.
“This project showed us how to execute a new-build facility the right way,” Ufferman said. “The lessons learned here will shape our infrastructure development across the country.”
In addition to strengthening NetJets’ operational resilience, the project has also contributed significantly to the local economy. During construction, more than 200 jobs were created, many of them through local contractors and suppliers. The company also sourced furnishings and materials locally, including art for the passenger terminal’s boarding lounge.
“Now that we’re operational, the facility supports dozens of full-time positions, and we continue to partner with nearly 20 local service providers—from landscaping to fire safety,” said Ufferman. “We’ve had a longstanding relationship with Scottsdale Airport, and this project deepens that connection.”
NetJets has signed a lease extending more than 20 years into the future, underscoring its long-term commitment to the region. Beyond the facility itself, the company expects to continue procuring local services for ground transportation, in-flight dining, and accommodations in support of its routine operations.
Sustainability and Forward Vision
From the outset, NetJets and Jet Aviation prioritized sustainability in the project’s design and construction. Local materials were sourced to reduce emissions, native vegetation was used in landscaping, and a high-volume ventilation system was installed in the hangar to minimize reliance on air conditioning.
“We build every new facility to the latest standards and always with sustainability in mind,” said Ufferman. “We’re also leading the industry in our purchase of sustainable aviation fuel and offer our Owners ways to reduce their own carbon footprint through our Blue Skies® program.”
Looking ahead, NetJets plans to replicate the Scottsdale facility model in other key markets. The integration of maintenance, operations, and customer service in a single footprint has proven to be both operationally effective and client-focused.
“We’re actively pursuing additional real estate projects across the U.S.,” Ufferman said. “Our goal is to apply what we’ve learned in Scottsdale to ensure every new facility meets our standards of safety, efficiency, and Owner experience.”
