LEXINGTON TWP. A skydiving mishap Saturday evening resulted in injuries to a 63-year-old southwest-section Canton man who jumped out of an aircraft.
The injured man was taken to Akron City Hospital. He was undergoing skydiving instruction under Canton Air Sports, which uses Barber Airport at 14008 Union Ave. NE.
"He did not deploy his main parachute," said Rodger Conley, owner of Canton Air Sports. "He was in a free fall on his back. He broke his arm and his wrist."
Conley said the emergency parachute automatically deployed for the victim.
The injured man was riding in a Cessna 182. The Stark County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident. Barber Airport is about three miles north of Alliance.
"He was life flighted," Sgt. Donald Burns of the sheriff' staff said. "It did not appear he had any life-threatening injuries."
There reportedly was no malfunction with the parachute equipment.
"He was jumping with two instructors and got away from them," Conley said. "It was his second jump of the day. He was spinning out of control. He just made a mistake on this one."
