Atlantic Aviation at South Bend International Airport (SBN) has invited Mayor Pete to take part in the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) AirPower History Tour with a ride in the B-29 Superfortress FiFi on July 3, at 10:30 a.m.
The CAF AirPower History Tour is a non-profit educational organization honoring the history of American military aviation. The B-29 Superfortress FiFi is their biggest attraction with it being the last operational B-29 still flying from World War II. The aircraft first flew in 1942 but was not active in service until 1944. FiFi operated in the World War II Pacific Theater as well as the Korean War.
“We wanted to offer this opportunity to Mayor Pete because of his military involvement and support of veterans’ initiatives,” said Mike Todorow, Atlantic Aviation general manager. “This flight is a once in a lifetime experience to get a glimpse from World War II.”
The Commemorative Air Force AirPower History Tour is taking place at Atlantic Aviation, 4302 Lathrop St., today through July 4. Families can come out and see the B-29 Superfortress FiFi, P-51 Mustang Gunfighter, C-45 Expeditor, T-6 Texan, and a PT-13 Stearman and learn about the history of these aircrafts. Aircraft tours are available daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Entry fees are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 10 through 17, and free for children under the age of 10. A 30-minute air in any aircraft can be purchased for Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Prices vary between each aircraft.
