Million Air Hosts Program for White Plains Youth Bureau to Explore Careers in Aviation
Million Air recently hosted a program at its Westchester County Airport location for the White Plains Youth Bureau’s Real G.I.R.L.S. Academy. The two-hour program provided 10 high school-aged girls with the opportunity to learn about and explore careers in aviation and an introduction to numerous opportunities available in the aviation industry.
The Million Air team began the program by giving the girls a tour of their hangar, lobby, and ramp which was followed by a visit to the airport's air traffic tower. During the tour, the girls learned about the roles and responsibilities of air traffic controllers, emergency services and airport operations teams from employees who hold those positions for Million Air and Westchester County Airport. While on the Million Air ramp, they learned about the equipment used at the airport and observed members of the operations team marshal aircraft to the ramp from the taxiway, stabilize the aircraft, prepare for unloading passengers and safely off-board the passengers.
"We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to introduce these young girls to the exciting and rewarding careers available in the aviation industry," said Roger Woolsey, CEO of Million Air. "We are pleased to partner with the White Plains Youth Bureau and hope that these programs inspire many girls to consider pursuing a career in this field."
Million Air is committed to promoting diversity in the aviation industry. As a member of the Westchester County Aviation Association and its long-term partnership with the White Plains Youth Bureau and its Aviation Academy, Million Air actively works to provide opportunities for underrepresented groups to explore careers in aviation.
