Menzies Aviation is forming a joint venture partnership with Oman Air to provide ground handling services to all nine Oman airports.

The joint venture is expected to form within the last quarter of 2016, and will be employee 2,5000 people in order to handle over 50,000 aircraft turnarounds yearly, according to a Menzies news release.

Oman Air has been re-configuring its ground handling businesses, according to a news release, and this is the latest step.

"Our partnership will enable us to access new technology, improve training and achieve the highest standards with regard to ground handling operations," Oman Air's Chief Executive Officer Paul Gregorowitsch said.

Through the partnership, Menzies will now offer ground handling to nine airports across Oman, including Muscat.

"This venture represents real progress against our strategy by securing a hub location and by expanding in emerging markets," Menzies President and Managing Director Forsyth Black said in a news release. "There is a great tradition of co-operation between British and Omani partners; we hope to add this new joint venture to that list.”

Menzies signed a memorandum of understanding with Oman Air sometime before May 31, and, by then, shares in John Menzies PLC were up 0.4 per cent in early trading.
