Airside Pharma Transporters in Use at Brussels Airport

Regulations for pharmaceuticals and the cold chain can be very strict. Incorrect temperatures or temperature fluctuations that are too high can cause pharma shipments to be rejected.

To prevent this from happening, Brussels Airport (BRU) started using four Airside Pharma Transporters in 2016 and today has nine. The transport trailers are preconditioned at the correct temperature and used to move pharma between warehouses and aircraft.

A BRU spokesperson said the fleet will need renewal in the next few years. The airport is currently in the early stages of power source selection. Today five are battery and solar-powered, four are diesel.

The airport also is looking at options for temperature-controlled storage at passenger terminals to temporarily store pharmaceuticals.
