JBT AeroTech Selected For Electrification Of Aircraft Cargo Loaders
JBT AeroTech has been awarded a contract by Delta Air Lines to convert a fleet of their Commander 15 cargo loaders from diesel to electrical power. The electrified Commander 15 loaders are slated to operate at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport’s recently opened Maynard M. Jackson Jr. International Terminal.
The contract was awarded under the National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program through a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant facilitated by the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE).
“The modular design of the Commander loader allows the electrical conversion work to be confined to only the powertrain module while retaining all of the same functional characteristics as the original diesel powered unit,” says Josh Parkin, JBT AeroTech Global Aftermarket Manager. “The conversion from diesel to electric power will deliver lower operating costs for Delta Air Lines while also providing their employees and the airport community a cleaner, quieter working environment”.
The conversion work will be performed at JBT AeroTech’s Orlando, FL facility and is expected to be complete by the end of December 2012.
