The talks between the management of the Taiwan Airport Service Co. and its Kaohsiung union, failed to arrive at any agreement on a 5-percent pay hike.

Ground staff at Kaohsiung International Airport in southern Taiwan on Thursday threatened to go on strike during the Lunar New Year holiday after the latest round of labor-management negotiations over a pay raise broke down, Taiwan's Official Central News Agency reported. The talks between the management of the Taiwan Airport Service Co. (TASC) and its Kaohsiung branch trade union, failed to arrive at any agreement on a 5-percent pay hike as demanded by the union. The TASC provides freight, aircraft cabin, passenger, ramp, and equipment maintenance services at Kaohsiung and other airports. Cheng Ying-sheng, head of the TASC Kaohsiung branch trade union, urged the management to deal with the dispute carefully in order to prevent a possible strike that would paralyze ground services at the Kaohsiung airport during the Lunar New Year holiday, usually a peak season for air transportation, the news agency said.
