ITW GSE introduced its 7400 eGPUs to change how airlines and airports think about ground power. However, introducing a fleet of battery-driven GSE may pose a challenge as electric infrastructure for charging remains an issue worldwide. ITW GSE is meeting this challenge with new charging options
Some airports may find themselves lacking electric ground support equipment (eGSE) chargers due to the limitations of existing grid capacity. However, most electric ground power units (GPUs) have excess electrical capacity at the input as most aircraft do not draw full load from the GPU on average. ITW GSE has recently introduced new solutions to exploit this excess power capacity from the grid.
The ITW GSE Power Share lets ground service providers use the excess power from the grid without having to upgrade the gate infrastructure as it distributes the power efficiently to the eGPU or other charging applications.
Combing an ITW GSE 2400 GPU with a Power Share allows more 50/60Hz AC-equipment to be charged even when the GPU is supplying 400Hz power to the aircraft at the same time.
Providing Solutions for the Customer’s Pains
Another major challenge is that, as of today, there is no global standard when it comes to eGSE charging. This means that the different eGSE within a single airport may require different chargers. That is why the newly added charging options for the ITW GSE 7400 eGPU allow airports to streamline their eGSE and EV charging infrastructure.
“The decarbonizing transition is here to stay, and we are pleased to see the sustainable and financial effects of introducing eGPUs on a global scale. We are also happy to help solve the infrastructure challenges and look forward to showing off our solutions at GSE Expo Europe,” says Lars Vestergaard, sales director, Europe.
