The EAA AirVenture experience in Oshkosh is one that helps build the future of aviation. By sharing the passion of aviation it will lead others to embrace it as a hobby or a vocation.
Young Eagles
One of the most recognized programs promoting aviation is the Young Eagles program which provides children ages 8 to 17 an opportunity to fly in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers. Most flights last between 15 and 20 minutes. And with Harrison Ford as the chairman, the added attraction of Indiana Jones builds the excitement, as participants receive a certificate signed by Ford.
KidVenture
Located at Pioneer Airport, KidVenture gives kids a chance to:
- Make a model rocket
- Try a flight simulator for a space mission or on the Wright Flyer
- Meet famous pilots
- Fly a kite that they made themselves
- Climb into an airplane cockpit
- Check out a hot air balloon
New this year is a Junior A&P program highlighting the mechanical aspects of flight. And A&Ps will show them how they fix things. KidVenture hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily except for Sunday when closing time is 2 p.m.
WomenVenture
EAA and Women in Aviation International are teaming up to Elevate Your Life. The program is designed to recognize and encourage women aviators. There will be programs throughout the week for longtime women pilots, women interested in learning to fly, and encouraging girls to explore the worlds of flight and the sciences.
Women Soar/You Soar on July 27 to 28 is designed for high school girls and features women sharing their aviation career knowledge and offering direction as mentors.
On Aug. 1 women pilots are invited to gather at AeroShell Square for the largest assemblage of women pilots in history. Additional information is available at www.airventure.org/womenventure.
Workshops & Forums
Various workshops will be held during the week on welding, restoration, and composites to name a few. Whether young or old you can learn new techniques. And besides the scheduled events, you might just run into someone that wants to talk about aviation, their airplane, or a new tool that they have designed.
