THE Kenya Airports Authority and the Ministry of Transport are at an advanced stage to have the Kisumu International Airport officially commissioned following its completion last month, to pave way for normal business operation.

Transport PS Cyrus Njiru announced during an inspection visit to the new facility yesterday, that the officials of the two bodies are working round the clock to put things in order ahead of the planned official opening. "We are in our finals laps of inspection and getting reactions from airport stakeholders on how new airport is and should be, pilots have recommened the run way and passengers too enjoy the new terminal, we want to seek their views and make things running very fast", said Njiru.

During the inspection, the team led by KAA Engineer Philemon Chamwada, airport manager and transport PS Cyrus Njiru discussed at length the itinerary of the day of the officials opening including were the tents will be erected, the place where the ribbon will be cut. Also in their discussion was the programme protocol and what to include in the speeches to be read by the guest.

The PS said the ministry of transport is yet to inform the office of the president on the progress of the airport but declined to say the official date of the opening saying it will be subject to the diary of the two principals. The Kisumu international is currently undergoing flights test before it is officially launched.
