The union for US Airways pilots will file a union grievance over the airline's decision to close the flight crew base in January and transfer 182 pilots elsewhere, said a message from the Air Line Pilots Association.
It claims US Airways' decision Oct. 3 to close the base and cut daily flights to 68 from 108 on Jan. 6 violates the pilots' labor agreement because the union did not receive adequate notice.
US Airways Labor Vice President Al Hemenway discussed the closure plan with union leaders Tuesday, but the airline's decision "hasn't changed from last week," said airline spokeswoman Andrea Rader on Wednesday.
When the crew base closes, the 182 pilots will have to commute to US Airways hubs in Philadelphia or Charlotte, N.C., to report to work and pilot a plane, or relocate from this area. Pilots' union officials could not be reached for comment.
