The head of operations at O'Hare International Airport's international terminal has been removed from his position after an audit by the Department of Aviation uncovered an ethics violation involving a city contractor and the employee who supervises the contract.
James Sachay neglected to disclose that his son was employed by Airport Property Management Group, which has had a contract to provide property management services for the international terminal since 1993, according to the audit.
The department also discovered that Sachay had recently been on a committee that recommended APMG be awarded a new five-year contract to continue providing services to the airport.
The Department of Aviation declined to specify whether Sachay had secured the job for his son with the contractor, or if , outside of the conflict of interest, there had been any ramifications for taxpayers as a result of the ethics violation.
The department has requested an investigation into the procurement process leading to the award of the contract to APMG.
Sachay was unavailable for comment.
