Sep. 20--Say goodbye to concourse 20 at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport.
The city of Amarillo received a $3.2 million grant for the demolition of concourse 20 and the associated apron. The apron is the "parking lot" planes use at concourses.
The demolition of concourse 20 is the first step in the estimated $37 million renovation of the airport.
The funds come from the U.S. Department of Transportation and are disbursed through the Federal Aviation Administration.
The grant can be used only for reimbursement of costs incurred.
Assistant City Manager Jarrett Atkinson said all airlines were shifted to concourse 30 and that concourse 20 has not been used in three years.
The project is not expected to affect travelers. A date for the demolition or timetable for the project was not available.
