Frontier may move headquarters Cramped in its current home at Denver International Airport, the airline is considering a move to Gateway Park. It will keep its DIA building if it moves.
Frontier Airlines is exploring a move of its headquarters from its Tower Road location in Denver to another building near Denver International Airport.
The location being considered - a new building in Gateway Park - is close to Frontier's reservations center and the training center Frontier uses for flight training. The airline hasn't yet struck a deal for the building.
"We looked at different scenarios, and this was just the one that economically and flexibility-wise was the best choice for us," said Frontier spokesman Joe Hodas.
Frontier is not planning to move out of its Tower Road location. One of its proposals is to keep operations and training employees at the Tower Road location and move administrative employees and its executive team to the Gateway location.
Frontier has been running out of space at its modest Tower Road headquarters for some time and has about 400 employees there. The company selected the Tower Road location for an $8 million, 50,000-square-foot headquarters building in 1999.
At that time, Denver offered incentives to compete with Aurora for the possible location of the Frontier headquarters. Some Denver City Council members complained about the design when reviewing it in 1999.
The Tower Road building is near a collection of airport hotels and restaurants, about 6 miles southwest of DIA.
The new building, which Frontier could occupy early next year, will help accommodate future growth, but the company is already tightly squeezed in its current headquarters.
"We're extremely space-constrained," Hodas said. Employees have to book meeting rooms well in advance, "and then you've got to fight for it at the last minute."
Frontier last year chose Westminster for the headquarters of its new Lynx Aviation turboprop subsidiary, separate from Frontier's headquarters.
Lynx has had to delay its startup and is pursuing Federal Aviation Administration certification.
