ORBITZ TO LAUNCH AIRPORT UPDATE SERVICE
Orbitz Worldwide Inc. today is expected to launch a free user-generated service enabling travelers to share real-time information regarding what's happening in and around the nation's top airports. OrbitzTLC combines information from federal agencies such as the FAA with contributions and reports of everyday travelers about such situations as security line wait times, traffic delays, parking updates, taxi lines, flight delays and weather information.
IOWA, MICROSOFT IN $180 MILLION SETTLEMENT
Microsoft Corp. will pay as much as $180 million to Iowa consumers under an antitrust settlement. Under the agreement, Iowans who bought Microsoft software from 1994 to 2006 and who file a claim will be paid in cash and vouchers for products to compensate for the claim that Microsoft used its monopoly position to overcharge for products, including Windows and Word.
NUMBER CRUNCHING
40% Industrialized nations must curb greenhouse emissions by at least 25 percent and as much as 40 percent by 2020 from 1990 levels to stabilize the world's climate, according to conclusions at a United Nations meeting in Vienna. The cutback in business activity is needed to offset the emissions from developing countries such as China and India, which aren't constrained by emission caps under the Kyoto Protocol. ''A greater mitigation potential is at the disposal'' of the world's more industrialized nations, the U.N. document concluded.
