Jul. 26--Wayne County Airport Authority has been named winner of the Airport Minority Advisory Council's 2007 Airport Concessions Award for exceeding its Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program goal for at least two years at Metro Airport.
The 2007 Airport Concessions Award was based on the Authority's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise goals for 2005 and 2006, according to airport spokesman Michael Conway.
In fiscal year 2005, the authority more than doubled its disadvantaged business participation, exceeding its goal of 20% when disadvantaged companies reached 41% of concession revenues or $61.9 million.
In fiscal year 2006, the authority surpassed its 20% disadvantaged business goal with 32% participation and revenues to such firms, climbing to $65.9 million.
Wayne County Airport Authority's disadvantaged business program offers small, minority and woman-owned businesses an equal opportunity to secure contracts in the areas of concessions, professional services and construction, including major capital projects such as the new North Terminal redevelopment.
The Airport Minority Advisory Council is a national trade association dedicated to promoting the full participation of minority-owned, women-owned and disadvantaged business enterprises in airport contracts and employment opportunities.
