Changi Airport in Singapore reported on 29 May that, on his visit to the airport, the Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, Raymond Lim, announced that the airport's new Terminal 3 will open for operations on 9 January 2008.

Construction of the terminal was completed last month when it received a Temporary Occupation Permit. The terminal is now ready for airlines, airport agencies, ground handlers, shop tenants and other airport business partners to move in and set up their systems and offices, with the aid of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS).

The airport confirmed that trial flights will be undertaken to test the various processes involved in the operating of the terminal. There will also be an open day for the public to view the interior of the terminal prior to its official opening.

According to the airport, Terminal 3, which cost SGD1.75bn to build, will be able to handle 22 million passengers each year, and it will be equipped with 28 aerobridge gates, eight of which will be able to accommodate the new Airbus A380 aircraft.
