The nation's third-largest carrier is expected to emerge from Chapter 11 on April 30.

ATLANTA (AP) - Delta Air Lines Inc. will use the same ticker symbol that it went into bankruptcy protection with when it comes out.

The Atlanta-based company said Wednesday it filed an application with the New York Stock Exchange to use its familiar 'DAL' symbol for its stock when it begins trading its new shares.

The nation's third-largest carrier is expected to emerge from Chapter 11 on April 30. It will issue new shares, which are expected to begin trading in early May. Its current shares will be canceled as part of its reorganization plan.

Delta filed for Chapter 11 protection from creditors in September 2005 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York.
