A programme at the United States Federal Air Marshal Service's training centre in Atlantic City, New Jersey saw 18 Chinese air marshals complete two weeks of training on 22 September.
The Chinese air marshals reportedly received training on how to be armed undercover officers on board commercial passenger flights.
The training programme was part of an aviation security agreement between the two countries that will also allow US air marshals to work undercover on flights operated by US carriers into China and vice versa.
According to Reuters, about two dozen countries have expressed an interest in sending air marshals to the US for training, while six other countries: Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Poland, Australia and Thailand, have so far sent air marshals to the centre for training.
