Delays of approximately two hours affected both domestic and international flights at Canada's Vancouver International Airport on Sunday (17 September) due to an alleged security breach.
The alert was triggered when a screening officer noticed what was believed to be a suspicious image at a security checkpoint.
According to a spokesperson for the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, it was unclear what the object was but as the bag had already left the screening point a decision was made to rescreen passengers, The Associated Press reported.
The alert led to the evacuation of departure lounges and the closure of departure gates and, according to reports, aircraft on the tarmac returned to the terminal to enable the rescreening of passengers.
