The European Union's Justice and Security Commissioner has claimed that the United States is unwilling to accept a new deal regarding the sharing of air passenger information.
The proposed deal would replace an agreement which has been annulled and is due to expire on 30 September.
Talks were held last Friday (8 September) regarding the replacement of the agreement in an attempt to minimise air travel disruption when the existing agreement expires.
Under current regulations airlines in Europe provide the authorities in the US with information on passengers entering the country. However a legal technicality led to the European Court dismissing the existing deal in May and giving Brussels and Washington until 30 September to replace it, Reuters reported.
Airlines will continue to send data to the US if no agreement is reached before 30 September.
