An American Airlines flight from Puerto Rico to Orlando was diverted Tuesday to Miami after pilots reported a hydraulic problem. The jet landed without apparent problems.

American Airlines Flight 478 landed in Miami at about 12:25 p.m. American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith said the jet was carrying 264 passengers and nine crew members.

The pilots reported a hydraulic warning light had come on but they remained in full control of the aircraft, Smith said. There are three backup systems on the Airbus, he said.

The flight was en route from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Orlando, where it was scheduled to land about 2:20 p.m., according to the American Airlines web site.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown said authorities first discussed diverting the plane to Nassau, Bahamas, before opting for Miami. The passengers will go on to Orlando on another aircraft.
