Construction of the second terminal at Mexico City's airport should be completed during the fourth quarter of the year, a release from the airport said Wednesday.
Terminal II of the Benito Juarez International Airport, which is halfway built, is expected to cost the Mexican government about US$600 million (euro475 million), the release stated.
The terminal will boost the crowded airport's capacity by 10 million passengers a year, up from about 24 million, and will also include a hotel and parking garage.
The government has been assisting other airports in the area, such as Toluca, to divert some of the traffic from Mexico City. Several low-cost airlines that have sprung up in Mexico over the past year have established a base in Toluca.
