Shanghai Becomes One of the World's Busiest Air Hubs

By the end of last year, Shanghai saw 375,127 scheduled flights take off and land at airports, representing a year-on-year growth of 13.86%.

SHANGHAI, April 25, SinoCast -- Up to 52 international airlines have launched air routes to Shanghai and the eastern city has also established routes with 98 overseas cities, making it come among one of the busiest air hubs in the world.

By the end of last year, Shanghai saw 375,127 scheduled flights take off and land at airports here, representing a year-on-year growth of 13.86%, and boosted throughput of passengers by 15.26% to 41.3916 million person-times and that of freights by 13.89% to 2.2052 million tons.

Shanghai airports are expected to boost throughput of passengers by 13% to 47 million person-times, that of freights by 13% to 2.5 million tons and taking off and landing times of scheduled flights by 12% to 420,000 in 2006.

Presently, international passenger flow volume has accounted for 40% of the total in Shanghai's airports and international freight volume more than 70%.
