Governor Announces $6 Million Investment to Enhance Nine PA Airports

Pennsylvania has more than 135 public-use airports that either directly, or indirectly, employ more than 288,000 people.

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced the release of nearly $6 million for nine Pennsylvania airport projects that will create jobs and ensure safer and more efficient airport operations. The aviation projects are administered by the state Department of Transportation.

"Airports are a major economic catalyst, providing Pennsylvania communities with thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in economic benefits each year," said Governor Rendell. "By investing in our airports, we are strengthening regional business and industry.

"Air travel is an important part of this state's total transportation system - it is critical to moving our citizens, as well as products, safely and efficiently," the Governor added.

Pennsylvania has more than 135 public-use airports that either directly, or indirectly, employ more than 288,000 people. Pennsylvania's airports generate $12.6 billion in economic activity annually.

Chester County: * $2,194,000 to New Garden Flying Field, Toughkenamon, to acquire land.
Clinton County: * $100,000 to William T. Piper Memorial Airport, Lock Haven, for hangar and terminal building renovations.
Dauphin County: * $1,307,715 to Harrisburg International Airport, Harrisburg, for terminal facilities construction.
Lancaster County: * $190,450 to Lancaster Airport, Lancaster, for hangar construction.
Lycoming County: * $700,000 to the Williamsport Regional Airport, Williamsport, for hangar construction.
Northampton County: * $495,835 to Braden Airpark, Easton, to acquire land.
Venango County: * $135,000 to Titusville Airport, Titusville, for T-hangar construction.
Westmoreland County: * $500,000 to Arnold Palmer Regional Airport, Latrobe, for aviation hangar construction.
York County: * $200,000 to York Airport, York, for hangar construction.v
