United Airlines wants a new group of regional carriers to take over its United Express flights operated by Air Wisconsin Airlines.
That includes four daily flights from Wichita.
The agreement must be approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the carrier said. A hearing is scheduled for April 22.
Air Wisconsin operates flights for United out of hubs at Washington Dulles, Chicago O'Hare International and Denver International Airports.
From Wichita, Air Wisconsin operates three daily flights to Chicago and one daily flight to Denver.
If the court approves the change, "there are going to be no interruptions to our United Express service," said spokeswoman Andrea Arroyo . "Customers can expect routes as usual."
United wants to SkyWest and GoJet to take over the service, the airline said. It also is in discussions with other carriers.
A transition would take about a year, Arroyo said.
In November, United put out a request for bids from carriers to take over the routes flown by Air Wisconsin. The airline wants to replace Air Wisconsin to cut costs.
"This tentative agreement represents an important step toward reducing costs for a significant portion of our Untied Express flying and ground handling," said Sean Donohue, vice president of United Express in a statement.
